2026 GOLDEYE CO-OPERATIVE YOUTH LEADERSHIP CAMP

The Goldeye Co-operative Youth Leadership Camp is committed to providing a safe, fun, and positive learning environment for youth while giving volunteers and staff a meaningful experience. To ensure this, all campers, staff, and volunteers must follow the rules below.

Failure to comply may result in removal from camp or other consequences.

Expectations

All campers, volunteers, facilitators, and staff are expected to:

  • Treat everyone with respect, kindness, and dignity
  • Follow directions from camp staff and leaders
  • Act responsibly to ensure the safety and well-being of themselves and others
  • Keep sleeping quarters, washrooms, and camp areas clean and tidy
  • Respect the natural environment, which is located in a forest reserve:
    • No tree cutting
    • No open fires
    • No picking flowers
    • No littering or defacing property
  • Observe quiet time from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Use all equipment, including first aid supplies, only for its intended purpose
  • Participate only in scheduled, supervised activities; do not use ropes courses, the lake, or other areas/equipment unless approved and supervised by camp staff
  • Use the Sweet Charlotte bell only if appointed for wake-up, start of sessions, or emergencies
  • Report any changes to health information or other relevant updates to the Camp Coordinator immediately
  • Be ready on time for bus pick-up and drop-off, follow bus rules, and clean up after oneself
  • Do not bring valuables; if anything is lost or missing, report it immediately to staff or volunteers

Prohibited Behaviour

The following behaviours are strictly prohibited:

  • Disruptive or harmful behaviour toward participants, staff, or volunteers, including physical, mental, emotional, or verbal harm
  • Emotional, physical, verbal, mental, or sexual abuse in any form
  • Acts of discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, nationality, ethnic origin, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or family status
  • Sexual activity or inappropriate sexual behavior
  • Alcohol, drugs (including prescribed and OTC’s), tobacco, or vaping
  • Bullying, intimidation, or harassment, including physical, verbal, or online forms
  • Use of profanity, crude remarks, or derogatory language
  • Wearing clothing or accessories that are offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate
  • Weapons or dangerous objects, including knives or anything that could cause harm
  • Leaving camp without permission
  • Entering areas or using equipment not part of the scheduled program
  • Inappropriate use of technology, including misuse of social media

Health and Safety

  • All health issues, injuries, special diets, or medications must be reported to camp staff immediately
  • Camp is a closed program; visitors are not permitted unless officially part of the program
  • Vehicles are off-limits unless approved by staff

Cell Phone & Electronic Devices

To encourage connection, engagement, and full participation in camp activities:

For Campers:

  • Cell phones and internet-enabled devices are collected on the first day of camp.
  • Devices are securely stored and returned to campers on the last day.
  • Campers may not use personal devices during activities, sessions, or free time unless approved by camp staff.

For Staff and Volunteers:

  • Staff and volunteers may need access to their phones or electronic devices for work purposes.
  • Devices should be used responsibly and only when necessary during sessions, activities, or interactions with campers to minimize distractions.
  • Staff phones are always accessible to allow campers to contact parents/guardians if needed.
  • Parents/guardians may contact the camp at any time through the camp office or designated staff

Consequences

Failure to follow the behavior policy may result in:

  • Removal from activities
  • Contacting parents or guardians (for campers)
  • Dismissal from camp
  • Repayment of any sponsor-funded portion if applicable

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all campers, staff, volunteers, and visitors experience a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. Harassment of any kind is not tolerated at camp.

This policy applies to all participants involved in the camp, including youth campers, camp staff, volunteers and facilitators, contractors, and visitors. It applies during all camp activities, whether on-site, off-site, or during travel associated with camp programming.

What Is Harassment

Harassment is any unwelcome behaviour that demeans, humiliates, intimidates, threatens, or otherwise creates an unsafe or uncomfortable environment.

Harassment may include, but is not limited to:

  • Bullying, teasing, or repeated unwanted comments
  • Verbal, written, or electronic harassment, including social media
  • Discriminatory jokes, slurs, or gestures
  • Physical intimidation or unwanted physical contact
  • Sexual harassment, including unwanted comments, gestures, or touching
  • Harassment based on race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or disability

Expected Behaviour

All campers, staff, and volunteers are expected to treat others with respect, kindness, and dignity, follow camp rules and directions from staff, and speak up or seek help if they experience or witness harassment.

Reporting Harassment

Harassment should be reported as soon as possible. Reports may be made to a camp coordinator, facilitator or the Camp Director. All reports will be taken seriously and handled promptly, respectfully, and as confidentially as possible.

Response and Consequences

All reports of harassment will be reviewed and addressed. Responses may include mediation or a facilitated discussion, behavioural warnings or corrective action, removal from specific activities, or dismissal from camp for campers, staff, or volunteers, depending on the severity of the behaviour.

Parents or guardians will be informed when appropriate.

Protection from Retaliation

Retaliation against anyone who reports harassment or participates in an investigation is strictly prohibited and will be treated as a serious violation of this policy.

Acknowledgement

All campers, parents or guardians, staff, and volunteers are expected to review and comply with this policy as a condition of participation in the camp.

Resources Used to Inform This Policy

This policy was informed by widely accepted best practices and guidance from the Canadian Human Rights Commission, the Alberta Human Rights Act, Safe Sport Canada, provincial and national youth-serving organizations such as Scouts Canada and YMCA Canada, and general best practices for youth camps and recreation programs.

This policy is intended to be clear, age-appropriate, and supportive of a positive camp experience while meeting basic legal and safety expectations.

GENDER INCLUSION POLICY

The program is inclusive and welcoming of all youth. Accommodations related to gender identity, privacy, or personal circumstances are respected.


CONFIDENTIALITY NON DISCLOSURE POLICY

Personal information and participant experiences are treated confidentially to ensure a safe and trusting environment.


MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION POLICY

All prescription and over-the-counter medications must be turned in to designated First Aid staff and administered according to medical guidelines.


NUT AWARE POLICY

The camp is nut-aware to protect participants with severe allergies. Specific guidance will be provided prior to camp.
